Supplements Canada for Preventing Osteo – Arthritis

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis, and anyone can be affected by osteoarthritis as we age. The joints of knee, hips, fingers, and spine are the most susceptible. This is a degenerative condition which tends to worsen with time, especially when the affected joints is used often.

The joint deterioration in osteoarthritis is due to the faulty repair of cartilage and bones in the joint. This could be attributed to the nutrient deficiency that is required for repair or also due to faulty sensory and wears and tear mechanisms in the body. Thus, supplements Canada have come up with the vitamin and mineral supplements to help to prevent osteoarthritis.

The most common indicator of osteoarthritis is a motion induced pain in joints and stiffness in joints that is worse after some rest or inactive state. The symptoms of osteoarthritis are not symmetrical and mostly affect one side only, for example, pain in left hand and not in right hand. However, when the arthritis is more widespread in other areas and is symmetrical, it is more likely to worsen the condition known as rheumatoid arthritis.

Most of the medical doctors will prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to subside the pain of osteoarthritis. However, there are some side effects of these drugs such as gastrointestinal bleeding, heart attacks, stomach ulcers, and liver problems. These drugs have short-term relief in pain, but these drugs can cause loss of bone mass in long term.

Osteoarthritis can be controlled by taking proper diet, as nutrient deficiency is one of the causes of this disease. Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables that will provide the nutrients required to rebuild the joint. Drink at least 8 cups of water in a day to ensure adequate fluid in the joints. An Alkaline Diet is recommended which helps in preventing worsening of symptoms and helps to maintain proper mineral balance.

Supplements Canada recommends supplements for reducing pain and inflammation, such as fish oil, herbs (curcumin, bromelain, boswellia, etc).

Supplements Canada also provides supplements for improving joint function. These include glucosamine, chondroitin, vitamin C and collagen, and Hyaluronic acid.
